Blog Post #12: Following a Hamlet Character

The character I would like to focus on is Hamlet himself. I have always considered darker heroes to be more interesting than the normal, good ones. After all, they have flaws and weaknesses just like we do, making the more human and in my opinion—hundreds of times more fascinating than traditional heroes. In Hamlet’s case, I’m particularly interested in his downfall from prince to insanity, which in terms of social media would also be interesting to portray. There are plenty of things that could represent his character such as songs that explore the darker parts of humanity. Even though there are other characters that are equally, perhaps even more, depraved as Hamlet, his role as the protagonist makes him more appealing in that it is not the villain that has immoral traits, but the hero.¹
